The World of Professional Testing

Software systems are omnipresent. It is not infrequent that the life of people depends on the frictionless and reliable functioning of the programs; a point in case is medical technology. Professional verifying and testing of software therefore becomes an increasingly important task which requires well-founded education.

This is why software testing professionals from all over the world have come together in order to work out and define standardized contents for further education.

There is also an ISEB Foundation Certificate in Software Testing logo qualification of the British Computer Society BCS Logo leading to an ISTQB recognition.

 

The American Software Testing Qualifications Board - www.astqb.org – is also affiliated with ISTQB.

 

Therefore, we decided to sort our documents primarily along the domains of the ISTQB syllabus. You can download the complete syllabus from http://www.istqb.org/fileadmin/media/SyllabusFoundation.pdf

For documentation purposes, you can find a “freezed” version here.

 

Please be aware that the copy rights of the syllabus are with ISTQB. We were just using the structure as it was published per August 9, 2006.

 

For the advanced levels, there was no generally agreed ISTQB syllabus by August 9, 2006.

Therefore, it might be useful to have a look at some alternatives:

The ISEB Practitioner Certificate in Software Testing was not very well defined in August 2006. You can have a look at a “freezed” version here. Also, BCS has an approach to certifications that might be realistic, but you also might end up as a highly overqualified taxi driver or waiter.

 

Finally, we decided to use the 10 domains used by the American Software Testing Qualifications Board, approved by ISTQB. One of the reasons were the people behind the ASTQB-

 

Definitely, ISTQB and their affiliates are the board of our choice.
